Peter Gustafsson | Founder of PG Golf & Sports Academy
Peter Gustafsson is a Swedish former European Tour professional and the founder of PG Golf & Sports Academy, one of the Costa del Sol’s most respected names in golf coaching and performance. Born in Orust, Sweden, he turned professional in 1999 and went on to compete in over 80 countries across the European Tour, the Challenge Tour and the Tour de las Américas.
His breakthrough came in 2005, when he earned his European Tour card as a Qualifying School medallist and announced himself with two runner-up finishes in his rookie season at the Open de España and the Omega European Masters. Four years later, in 2009, he claimed the opening event of the Tour de las Américas in Medellín, Colombia, and finished the year as the tour’s Order of Merit champion; he was the first non–South American player ever to win it.
In 2015, Peter stepped away from the competitive circuit to do something more than winning tournaments; he built the place he wished he’d had as a young player. In September 2020, PG Golf & Sports Academy opened beside Atalaya Golf & Country Club in Benahavís. It has since grown into the most advanced training facility of its kind in Spain with 54 hitting bays and a 44-screen TrackMan range, the largest and most up-to-date in the country, staffed by an international, multilingual coaching team year-round.
What began at Atalaya didn’t stay there. The brand now spans four Costa del Sol locations: the flagship at Atalaya, the academy at Mijas Golf Club, the all-weather indoor academy at The Clubhouse Marbella, and the newest chapter, PG by Magna Marbella Golf, an incredible facility and partnership reimagining one of the area’s best-loved courses.
Across all of the PG Academies runs a single thread: Peter’s genuine obsession with other people’s progress. From junior camps for kids picking up a club for the first time to elite programmes for serious players chasing professional careers, the academies have become a launchpad for emerging and touring professionals alike.
That’s why golfers travel from every corner of the world to train here, not just for 300 days of sunshine and tour-grade technology, but for the calibre of the PG coaching team. Many are former professional players themselves, each one handpicked by Peter, upholding golf standards found nowhere else in Spain.
